The Department of “Library and Information Studies and Cultural Policy” offers training in field of higher education 3. Social Science, Economic Science and Law, professional field 3.5. Public Communication and Information Science.
At the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, disciplines in the field of library science have been taught since 1924. 1953 a specialized department was established. At the beginning, students are trained in a main specialty, and subsequently the training is carried out in the form of a second specialty in parallel with the main or through a postgraduate qualification. In 1986, the Department of “Library Science, Scientific Information, Cultural Policy” was included in the Center for Cultural Studies.
The “Library and Information Studies and Cultural Policy” department became a part of the Faculty of Philosophy in 1993. That same year also saw the creation of the current form of the LIS discipline, which to this day train students in Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs (full-time and part-time).
