Project OA2020-DE on behalf of Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany: Framework for a transition to open access

  • 1. University Library Bielefeld

Description

The MPDL-Whitepaper (Schimmer et al., 2015) represents the theory, that on a global perspective, library acquisition budgets are sufficient enough to switch all journal articles to an APC based open access model. This global perspective is evident, but published articles do not equally distribute over countries and institutions. The "Pay-it-forward"-study (Mellon Foundation, University of California Libraries, 2016) shows on an institutional level, that research-intensive US-Universities potentially need to include additional grant funds for the open access transition, depending on different factors.

A major task of National Open Access Contact Points is to state a framework for a transition to open acces on institutional level. This talk presents the method, components and preliminary results of an institutional data analysis.
