Satellite based Wetlands Assessment: Effects of spatial resolution on urban wetlands dynamics using Resourcesat2/2A satellite data.
Authors/Creators
Description
Wetlands are very diverse and most productive eco-system. Globally natural wetlands are in long-term decline approximately 35% around the world; between 1970 and 2015. In contrast, human-made wetlands almost doubled over this period. Wetlands are serving as critical components of urban ecosystems, understanding their changes is imperative for sustainable urban development and conservation efforts. The numerous small wetlands are of great significance for local level management of hydrology. This study focuses on evaluating changes in wetland distribution and extent in the urban setup using two satellite datasets viz. LISS-III and LISS-IV having distinct spatial resolutions.
