Open Source Software in the Spectrum of Open Science

As the science community moves towards FAIR research artifacts and open science practices, there is a need to understand what is needed for software, both from the community's perspective and from the repository and policy perspectives. This short presentation first introduces the basics of open science, open source software, and FAIR, then sketches out the main issues and goals for the work needed in these areas for software. Software is loosely divided into four overlapping categories, namely mission software, software associated with publications, general use software, and modeling and simulation software. A working groups, multiple workshops, and a slide deck with open comments are mentioned at the end as ways to get involved in the conversation and contribute to the work needed.
