Pushing into Open Science at APL
Description
NASA’s requirements for its Open Science initiative will have significant consequences for scientists and teams. Within Heliophysics, some practices are already familiar, while others are new. At the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (APL), we have a group of data science experts who are significantly involved in helping to streamline the adaptation of APL’s institutional processes for new requirements like open sourcing software and keeping projects under a community-focused revision control system. We have engaged with both scientists and Intellectual Property (IP) experts to find the best path. We present here a short overview of the steps we are taking to help our science efforts efficiently open source their code and more fully implement Open Science practices.
