Advancing the Understanding of Multiple Long-Term Conditions through AI and Open Science: The AIM Research Support Facility
Description
Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTC) are a significant health challenge affecting an estimated 14 million people in England alone. As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly relevant to healthcare, researchers are working to better understand how complex disease patterns, treatment pathways, and socioeconomic factors influence patient outcomes.
The AI for Multiple Long-Term Conditions (AIM) programme comprises from seven consortia across the UK. The AIM Research Support Facility (RSF) at the Alan Turing Institute, in collaboration with Edinburgh and Swansea universities, supports the secen consortia in prioritising collaborative development, reproducibility, interoperability, and public engagement. The RSF plays a crucial role in ensuring that datasets are properly aligned, FAIR and standardized, supporting the reuse of research artefacts and outputs for extended analyses within the AIM programme and beyond.
Through hands-on workshops, ECR lunchtime sessions, and collaboration cafes, the programme fosters connections between researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and the public to create a supportive research environment that drives scientific progress in healthcare research that focuses on open science principles.
This lightning talk invites researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and the public to learn about the revolutionary work being done by the AIM RSF programme. We will showcase how collaborative development, reproducibility, interoperability, and public engagement are integral to our approach to advancing the understanding of MLTC. Our collaborations are breaking new ground in the field of health and care through an emphasis on open science principles and inclusive collaboration.
