The Open Climate Campaign - why we need open access to climate science

Climate change, and the resulting harm to our global biodiversity, is one of the world's most pressing challenges. While the existence of climate change and the resulting loss of biodiversity is certain, knowledge and data about these global challenges and the possible solutions, mitigations and actions to tackle them is too often not publicly accessible. For example, only 47% of research articles on climate change are open. If we are to enable solutions to climate change, the knowledge about it must be open. Recognizing the need for open access in climate science, the Open Climate Campaign is working to make the open sharing of research the norm in climate science through advocacy, direct work with funders of climate research, its international focus and by opening foundational climate change publications.

• What are some new tools or initiatives you can employ at your institution to promote open practices? 
• How can you get involved in the open climate campaign?
