Description

This work presents the outcomes of several research groups after three years of experimental activities, part of the EU Horizon 2020 SLOWD project, related with the study of violent sloshing in an aeronautical context. The paper describes the different experimental rigs that the project partners have designed in order to measure the effects of liquid sloshing on vertically vibrating tanks. A wide variety of experiments have been performed either using periodic forced actuation or transient decaying motion. The most important results observed in the experiments in terms of tank acceleration, fluid added damping, sloshing forces and dissipated energy as functions of fill-level, excitation level and normalised excitation frequency are shown. The overlapping conclusions from both sets of quantitative and qualitative results, as well as their physical interpretation, show a remarkable consistency despite the independent nature of the experimental rig designs
