The role of multiplicity in the formation of sub-structures in protoplanetary disks

Description

Approximately 10% of the protoplanetary disks host large dust-free cavities that may be caused by the presence of massive planets or internal photoevaporation.  In such systems, the inner disks are often misaligned with respect to the outer disk. Both the misalignment and the cavity are possibly caused by close eccentric binaries. We are carrying out a search for (sub-)stellar spatially unresolved companions using high-resolution spectroscopy (mainly from VLT/ ESPRESSO) to test for such a hypothesis.
