Description

The present dissertation aims to investigate the University Press of the University of Recife, its print shop and its publications. Through a historic approach, the university print is discussed since its beginning, in 1955, until the end when became publishing company, in 1972. Of these almost two decades, are raised and discussed its creation context and structuration as institutional body of the university. The graphic workshop, the most widely discussed sector, is conceptualized and has exposed its composition and printing practices, as well as its agents, consisting of an investigative work through the various sources consulted, thus reaching publications from this office. More than seventy books were cataloged and observed, generating a sufficient amount of data that helped to trace the trajectory of theuniversity press in the period. Treating these books as objects of information, they star in the final part of the dissertation, demonstrating through a diverse and heterogeneous production, the productive phases through which the organ went through. With this deepening in the books, more accurately and carefully on the covers, a direct relationship with graphic artists of the period is established that, over the years, become part of the Press (internal and external) as agents. Thus, it was possible to perceive the degree of importance of this sector, within the editorial and graphic scenario of Pernambuco, especially in the 1960s.
