Plant Extracts

Nature provides a source of foods and ingredients that are beneficial to human health. Various modern-day drugs were extracted from medicinal plants. Plants have also been used in the production of stimulant beverages, such as tea, coffee, cocoa, and cola, and toxicants, such as wine and beer. Plant extracts are increasingly used as important additives in the food industry due to their bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and carotenoids, which have antimicrobial and antioxidant activity, especially against low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) oxidative changes.
