Plant cytology (Greek. ―cytos-cell) studies plant cells, their structure, organs and their functions. All living organisms are divided into two major kingdoms based on their cell structure: prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Cells of prokaryotic organisms reproduce by simple division, while cells of eukaryotic organisms divide by mitosis and meiosis. One of the most important characteristics of a cell is its diversity and similarity.
