Description
Indian Knowledge has widely contributed to the field of medicine, art, literature, science and social
sciences. The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is a system introduced via the National Education
Policy (NEP) 2020 as a part of the curriculum of higher education. The objective of reviving
traditional knowledge is not only being emphasized on the national level but also internationally
through United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in the 2019 session. This Forum is
aimed at identifying and sharing successful practices and lessons learned in the advancement of
indigenous people's rights, as well as formulating policy. During the colonial era, Britishers
regarded the Indian education system as superstitious and this widely held belief is largely
attributable to the faulty education system in India, which has undermined the teaching of ancient
Indian knowledge and scientific accomplishments. University Grant Commission (UGC) has now
noted the recommendation of the NEP 2020 and introduced a draft on Indian Knowledge System at
the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.
