Developing Crop Yield Forecasting Capabilities in Scotland.
Description
This report details research and technical developments made to enable forecasting of harvest time crop yield in Scotland as the growing season develops using satellite imagery, data integration and modelling. The aim was to develop crop yield prediction capabilities to enhance the Scottish Crop Map,, and to contribute to improvement and the future direction of this product. The objective was to develop an annual yield prediction model for high profile crops in Scotland. This report provides brief details on the method and data processing developed and the results gained. We have focused the development, testing and application of the method to Spring Barley, as this is a key economic crop and one that has best available observed yield data for calibration and testing purposes.
