Ibn Qutaybahs' imitation of Ibn Abbas (RA) in Tafseer Ghareeb Al Quran

Description

Ibn Qutaybah was one of the popular Arabic language scholars in Persian descent. He served as a judge during Abbasi Caliphate, but mainly he was known for his contribution to the Arabic literature in the form of books written by him. He wrote more than 60 books on different subjects including Qur’anic exegesis, tafsir, hadith, Fiqh, philosophy, history, grammar, astronomy, agriculture, botany, law and jurisprudence. This article shed light on the contribution of Ibn Abbas (RA) in the interpretation of Quran lead by Ibn Qutaybah in his exegesis of Ghareeb Al Quran. Moreover, a brief introduction of Ibn Qutaybah and Ibn Abbas (RA) is given. Also, two Quranic words “Al Muhaimin (المهيمن)” and “Al Jinn (الجنّ)” are discussed in detail which were discussed by Ibn Qutaybah in his book “Tafseer Ghareeb Al Quran (تفسير غریب القرآن)”. Ibn Qutaybah has followed Ibn Abbas (RA) school of thought in explaining these words.
