Analysis of residential heat pump systems using system simulation

Climate protection has become increasingly important in recent years, both socially and politically. As of January 2024, in the building sector as many newly installed heating systems as possible will be powered at least 65 percent by renewable energy sources according to the new German Building Energy Act. In this context, the combination of solar energy and heat pump systems represents a promising concept for covering the building energy demand by renewable sources. As part of our research a systematic investigation of (solar) heat pump systems as hybrid systems for heat and power supply of buildings by combining photovoltaic-thermal hybrid (PVT) collectors and heat pumps in energy generation as well as thermal and electrical energy storage is being done. For evaluation of such complex energy systems typically at least one year will be considered. In future, considered systems will be extended with conventional cooling systems, electrical vehicle infrastructure or elastocaloric devices to analyse system performance regarding comfort, ecological, economical and grid supportive criteria.
