This article presents preliminary results from an online bibliography focusing on the ethnographic and local historical works of the clergy from the 18th to the mid-20th century. It highlights the significant contributions of priests, pastors, and ministers to the development of folkloristics and ethnography in Europe. The research aims to understand the changing attitudes of the clergy towards local culture and investigate the transition from superstition eradication to the emergence of ethnography and folklore studies. The methodology involves reviewing influential scientific (Ethnographia, Századok, Magyar Nyelvőr), clerical (Religio, Magyar Sion, Protestáns egyházi és iskolai lapok, Keresztény Magvető, Unitárius Közlöny) and cultural (Ifjú Erdély, Erdélyi Fiatalok, Pásztortűz) periodicals from the 19–20^th century and utilizing the Zotero reference management software for data collection. The article outlines initial findings, discusses future goals, and underscores the importance of clergy members in shaping the field of folkloristics and ethnography.
