Composition Of The Centaurea Hyracanica Bornm. Essential Oils In Different Parts Of Iran

Creators

Description

Based on the study of Centaurea hyrcanica, here are some key points:

1. Centaurea hyrcanica is a type of wheat flower that is distributed in North and North-East of Iran.
2. The study aimed to analyze the chemical composition of the essential oil of C. hyrcanica for food supply, cosmetics-health industry, and medicinal uses.
3. The plant parts, including stem plus leaf, inflorescence, and root, were collected from different localities in Iran.
4. The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS).
5. The study found that the essential oil yield varied across different localities and ranged between 0.03-0.14%, 0.03-0.28%, and 0.02-0.77% for stem plus leaf, inflorescence, and root, respectively.
6. The major constituents of essential oils obtained from different parts of C. hyrcanica populations were caryophyllene oxide and spathulenol.
7. The major constituent of root essential oils was found to be cis-pinane.
8. Ethyl tetradecanoate was a major constituent in different populations of C. hyrcanica except for Pol sefid samples. Other major compounds in essential oils of Pol sefid samples were 1-hexadecene, β-eudesmol, γ-eudesmol, and borneol.
9. The study suggests that growing C. hyrcanica in highlands conditions is rich in essential oil and aroma profile, making it appropriate for producing high economic amounts of extracted essential oil and aroma profile for therapeutic uses and food technologists.
