Description
Water is a vital and essential resource for all life on Earth. It covers approximately 70 per cent of the Earth's surface, with most of it found in oceans and seas. As the population is increasing and the demand offood is directly as well as indiretly dependent on water, hence it is mandatory to save and supply water precisely to the root zones of crops. Eforts to improve water management in agriculture include the adoption ofvater efficient irrigation technologies, such as drip irrigation, and the promotion of water saving practices, such as crop rotation and mulching. Agriculture accounts for 70 per cent of total freshwater withdrawals on average but these amounts can reach as much as 95 per cent in some developing countries. Drip irrigation is a system of applying water directBy to plant roots by small drops, through a network of pipes and emitters. This system is designed to provide the plants with a consistent supply of tvater and nutrients while minimizing waste and reducing water usage. It has several advantages over traditional irrigation methods, including improved water eficiency, reduced soil erosion.
