Business dominance over water resources in the central region of the State of Zacatecas, Mexico. Hydrosocial networks and the production of rural space.(in Spanish)

  • 1. Autonomous University of Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico

Description

The article analyzes the collaboration networks established between the private company
Modelo Brewery Group and other actors with the aim of consolidating control over water
resources in the central region of the State of Zacatecas, Mexico. Since its arrival at the
region in the 1990s, the company achieved a central position in Zacatecas’ economic,
political, social and cultural spheres, which made it easier for it to build strategies to
establishing control over the region’s water resources, which are an essential input for
the production of beer. To identify the actors that make up the company’s hydrosocial
network, I consulted official documents, research reports, and other sources. The
findings suggest that Grupo Modelo has set up a complex collaboration network that
needs to be dismantled in order to achieve more equitable access to water in the region
