Lectotype (designated by Jonsell & Jarvis 2002):—“ Habitat in Europae humidiusculis”, Herb. Linn. No. 486.7 (LINN digital image).
= Epilobium palustre L. var. minimum C.B. Clarke (1879: 586).
Lectotype (designated by Raven 1962a):— PAKISTAN. Kashmir, Ladakh, Deosai, 3950 m, 31 July 1876, Clarke 29816 (K001057566!).
Distribution: —N Pakistan, Jammu & Kashmir, M Yarlung Zangbo, L Yarlung Zangbo, Tangut, S Hengduan, N Hengduan.
Note: —This species is widely distributed across North America and Eurasia (Chen et al. 1992). It is highly variable particularly in plant stature. In the eastern Pan-Himalaya, plants of Epilobium palustre vary greatly in size. In the high elevations, plants are often shorter.
