This species has one of the most extensive north to south distributions of any cicada species. It has been reported from central Argentina to the southern United States (Metcalf 1963a; Duffels and van der Laan 1985; Sanborn et al. 1995b; Sanborn 2001, 2006b, 2007a,b; Sueur 2002; Boulard 2005; Salazar Escobar 2005; De Santis et al. 2007). The species has been reported from Manaure (Distant 1881a; Jacobi 1907), Cauca, Tomlima, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Antioquia and Santander (Figueroa Potes 1952), Caldas, Río Cauca and Tolima, Mariquita-El Bosque (Salazar Escobar 2005) in Colombia.
