Variance in baroclinic modes across frequency bands in a global ocean simulation
Description
This data set is based on a paper with the same title (doi here). It contains the time-mean and depth-integrated kinetic energy (KEs) and eastward (FXs) and northward (FYs) pressure fluxes for 5 vertical modes for a 4-km global HYCOM simulation (expt_19.0; also discussed in https://doi.org/10.1175/JPO-D-21-0130.1). The energy terms are computed for four frequency bands: (1) subtidal, 0.0333-0.85 cycles per day (cpd), (2) diurnal (D1), 0.85-1.05 cpd, (3) semidiurnal (D2), 1.78-2.15 cpd, and (4) higher harmonic (HH; supertidal), 2.15-12 cpd. The eigenspeeds (CEs) are also included for the 5 modes, as well as the HYCOM grid coordinates and the water depth. To speed up the modal diagnostic calculations and minimize storage, the tripole grid is reduced from nx=9000 and ny=7055 to nxs=4500 and nys=3527 (every other grid cell is used; a fourfold reduction in number of points).
