GENETICS OF RESISTANCE

  • 1. Centre of Science and Society (under IIDS), University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, U.P., India

Description

A wide range of factors, including pathogens and pests (McDowell, & Woffenden,

2003), significantly affects the world’s food supply. Plant cells may autonomously

keep constant watch for pathogens by expressing a wide range of "R genes" (R,

resistance). The putative receptors known as R genes thought to respond to the

virulence-producing byproducts of the pathogen's "Aver genes" produced during

infection.
