In our country, Tribes constitute 8.2% of the Indian population as per the definition of ‘Oxford Dictionary” A tribe is a group of people is a primitive or barbarous stage of development acknowledging the authority of a chief and usually regarding themselves as having a common ancestor”. Before independence also Tribal were suffering many problems such as less means of communication in tribal areas, lack of proper drinking water, illiteracy, inadequate medical facilities etc. Tribal development efforts in India were established during the British rule. British have realized the actual problems of the tribal. Hence, British administration established a separate administrative system in tribal areas. After independence, a secular Constitution was adopted to govern the country. In the constitution, several provisions were made for the development of the tribal people in India. Lots of schemes of development formulated and implemented to uplift the tribal people in India. Several schemes of tribal development are still active through much more five -year plans in India. Attempts have been made to make the Scheduled Tribes to develop socially, economically, educationally, culturally and politically. This study to discover the development of tribal communities in all the aspects.
