"Relationship between body weight, waist circumference, insulin resistance and blood pressure in a pediatric population before and after a non-pharmacological treatment based on dietary behavioral modifications"

Authors/Creators

Description

The purpose of this study was to assess, in a sample of children who had one or more cardiovascular risk factors and who were undergoing treatment based on lifestyle and dietary changes, whether the effect of treatment on blood pressure was mediated by changes in insulin resistance. Our results suggest that insulin resistance plays an important role in determining systolic blood pressure in our population. Furthermore, the study shows that the reduction in blood pressure associated with a decrease in body weight is closely related to a concomitant decrease in insulin resistance.
