Genus description

Small size. Ground colour of head, thorax and abdomen typically vermillion or yelloworange, but can also be brown or pale cream. Male antennae bipectinate in basal portion otherwise filiform, female antennae filiform. Labial palps present, reduced maxillary palps. Tegula sometimes with coloured (green, cream or white) patch, dorsal side of thorax sometimes with one or two coloured (green, cream or white) patch(es). Legs same ground colour as body, tibial spur formula 0-2-2 for D. viridiplaga and D. chlorodaedala species groups, 0-0-0 for D. smithi and D. nigrovenosa species groups. Fore wing: short, broad, triangular, ground colour vermillion, yellow-orange, brown or pale cream, typically with black venation in postmedial area. Medio-ventral fascia elongate or triangular (longer in females than males), green, white or cream. Venation R3 + R4 branch off of R5; cell with medial vein. Fringe long. Hind wing: ground colour typically lighter than fore wing, ranging from pale beige to brown, sometimes with black venation. Venation Rs + M1. Female frenulum formed of a group of c. 15–20 bristles. Underside of both wings paler than upper side without markings. Juvenile stages unknown.
