Description
The objective of the present work is to carry out a bibliographic review about the relationship between diet and acne vulgaris in adolescents, trying to identify if there is scientific evidence of this relationship and the possible improvement of the picture. In the selected findings it was evidenced that adolescence is a moment of transition to the adult stage, in this phase there is a set of biological modifications that happens in the organism due to the great release of hormones. Acne vulgaris or juvenile acne is one of the most frequent dermatoses, affects millions of people in the world. The lesions affect almost all the young, of both sexes. Adolescents at this stage need to consume large amounts of food, due to the peak of their development. Adolescent eating behavior is strongly influenced by eating habits. The high glycemic index diet may be involved in the pathophysiology of acne, as it is an important contributor to the development of hyperinsulinemia, which is closely related to the onset of acne. Therefore, inadequate dietary practices should be investigated early in order to stimulate the interest of a dietary reeducation. In this sense, further studies should be carried out to elucidate the effects of the consumption of foods with high glycemic index in the Adolescence phase.
