SAMUTER Los valles pirenaicos orientales de la Montaña de Navarra

El SAMUTER de los valles pirenaicos orientales de la montaña Navarra forma parte del  proyecto SAMUTER (Sistemas Agroalimentarios Multifuncionales y Territorializados) (https://samuter.paisajeterritoriouam.es/).

Se localiza en este contexto territorial de área desfavorecida de montaña, más concretamente, en los valles orientales de Salazar y Roncal, que son los que concentran los mayores valores de altitud e innivación y los que mantienen el mayor grado de extensificación en sus prácticas ganaderas. De este modo, todos sus municipios han sido calificados de montaña o de alta montaña (PDR 2014-2020). Dicho SAMUTER no se fundamenta en un único producto alimentario, sino que primordialmente se sustenta en un sistema ganadero caracterizado por el pastoreo en régimen extensivo o semiextensivo de distintas especies (vacuno, ovino y equino) practicado desde tiempo inmemorial y renovado posteriormente. Como resultado, los principales productos son quesos y otros derivados lácteos, carne de cordero, de ternera y de potro. En distintos estudios e informes especializados en la materia el sistema ganadero extensivo pirenaico ha sido identificado como un Sistema Agrario de Alto Valor Natural (SAVN), al considerarse que ha posibilitado el mantenimiento de una considerable extensión de vegetación seminatural, más concretamente de prados y pastizales y, en términos generales, de hábitats naturales y especies silvestres de gran valor.

SAMUTER in the eastern Pyrenean valleys of the Navarre mountains is part of the SAMUTER project (Multifunctional and Territorialised Agri-food Systems) (https://samuter.paisajeterritoriouam.es/).

It is located in this territorial context of a disadvantaged mountain area, more specifically in the eastern valleys of Salazar and Roncal, which are the ones with the highest altitude and snow levels and the highest degree of extensification in their livestock farming practices. Thus, all their municipalities have been classified as mountain or high mountain (RDP 2014-2020). This SAMUTER is not based on a single food product, but is primarily based on a livestock system characterised by extensive or semi-extensive grazing of different species (cattle, sheep and horses) practised since time immemorial and subsequently renewed. As a result, the main products are cheese and other dairy products, lamb, veal and foal meat. In various studies and specialised reports on the subject, the extensive Pyrenean livestock system has been identified as an Agricultural System of High Natural Value (SAVN), as it is considered to have made possible the maintenance of a considerable extension of semi-natural vegetation, more specifically meadows and pastures and, in general terms, of natural habitats and wild species of great value.
