Description
While following a historical process related to the beginning of Impressionism, it can be said that the proportions and deformities in the objects and figures in Mannerism and the thematic structure in romanticism have been a guide for the artists in this movement. It can also be said that Turner, who is shown as one of the first of abstract art in many sources, was one of the painters who formed the first movement of Impressionism and abstract art. In a sense, this can mean that Turner is the root of Impressionism. Especially, the similarity between William Turner's "Red Sunset" and Claude Monet's "Sunrise" inevitably creates an analogy tendency for those who take them side by side. Those who follow this analogical tendency perceive that especially lines and sharp lines are neglected and that the similarities in their works are striking. The research aims to examine the analogy between William Turner's "Red Sunset" and Claude Monet's "Sunrise." The research was conducted with the qualitative research method, and a literature review was done in order to reach the data. Also, the analysis of pictures was examined as a descriptive picture analysis. As a result of the research, it is thought that both works were done with quick brush strokes without realist concern. The closeness of the spaces and objects imagined in both paintings has a profound likeness. Even though both artists' works are visually similar, they show some differences within themselves. If we give an example, it is obvious that the sun's image in Turner's work is sharper than its reflection on the sea, and in Monet's work, it is in a melted form by extending to the lower part.
