New insights into the rotational evolution of near-solar age stars from M 67

Description
The spindown of stars beyond ages of 1Gyr is still enigmatic due to a lack of accessible calibrators.
We present newly obtained rotational data for the old open clusters Ruprecht 147 (2.7Gyr) and M67
(4Gyr) from Kepler’s K2 mission. They provide insights in the rotation of stars later than early-K
and older than 1Gyr for the first time. The data indicates a strongly color dependent nature of the
spindown and a more complex behavior than previously assumed. While the origin of the observed
behavior is still unclear, it is apparent that even at the age of M67 the spindown continues to create
a single sequence in the age-color-period space.
