Description
Solutions such as -aaS (as a Service, such as Software or Platform as a Service) have become more and more trending. An increasing number of organisations are finding added value from such cloud-based solutions (Susan Moore, 2022). One particular trending -aaS is DaaS, the Desktop as a Service. This very recent technology is all about completely outsourcing desktops, which goes even further than similar cloud-based solutions such as Citrix, where only the operating system (e.g., Windows) is being simulated. By completely outsourcing desktops, computing power (such as powerful processors, video cards and so on) is not necessary to buy as a organisation since this power comes completely from the DaaS-provider. Within this paper, the costs of using DaaS in comparison to work ‘the traditional way’ is researched, as well as the (possible) security advantages, efficiency, and cost advantages that DaaS may bring. The flexibility of remote working is also discussed. To research these subjects, literature (archival) research as well as surveys and interviews are used.
