Description

Hohenbuehelia cepistipes L. L. Qi, N. Lang & Y. Li sp. nov. Figs. 4–5

Mycobank: MB843263

Etymology:— cepistipes refers to the sturdy and thick stipe of the holotype.

Diagnosis:—Differs from other Hohenbuehelia species by its strictly inimitable symbol thick stipe, undulating to wavy margin, characteristic metuloid pleurocystidia, clamp connection present and distinctive nrITS & LSU sequence.

Holotype:— CHINA. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Chongzuo City, Longzhou County, Nonggang National Nature Reserve, elevation 300m, on decaying dead fallen angiosperm, 17 May 2017, GAASwsw0534 (FFAAS 0427!).

Description:—Basidiomata fleshy. Pileus 20–50 mm in diam., flabelliform, petaloid, spathulate; surface gray to pale gray (2B1, 3B1), paler towards margin; White cotton floc, dense near center, sparse elsewhere, slightly appendiculate, nonhygrophanous, nonstriate, dry; margin undulating to wavy. Context slight thick, 2–3 mm, white to pale gray (2B1, 3B1), soft. Lamellae subdistant to close, slightly crowded, with lamellulae of different lengths, arising from an excentric, slightly central stipe, subdecurrent to decurrent, fleshcolor, salmon (6A4), white to pale gray (2B1, 3B1) toward pileus margin, narrow to moderately broad, 2–3mm, edge concolorous to the sides, entire, smooth. Stipe 10–15× 15–20mm, usually pleurotoid to excentric, cylindrica, solid, concolor with lamellae, smooth. White mycelial mat at base. Spore print white. Odor mild, taste mild.

Basidiospores 4.5–6.5×3.0–3.5 μm, (L m = 5.49 ± 0.49, W m = 3.09 ± 0.21); Q = 1.2–2.1, Q m = 1.78, subglobose to elliptical, smooth, inamyloid, thin-walled. Basidia 15.0–21.0×4.0–5.5μm, 2–4 sterigmate, clavate to subclavate, thinwalled, hyaline. Lamella edge sterile. Pleurocystidia usually distinctly thick-walled, with mostly several wall layer, present both on sides of lamellae, numerous, scattered, 60.0–92.5 × (8.0) 10.0–13.0, ventricose-rostrate, fusiform, setiform, with a covering of finely to coarse granula crystals top; crystals quickly dissolve in 5% aqueous KOH, pale fuscidulous Cheilocystidia 43.0–60.0 × 5.0–9.5μm, fusoid-ventricose, lageniform with an inflated base with a thin, irregular, nonbifurcate, without crystals, thick-walled, hyaline to almost hyaline. Pileoleptocystidia absent. Hymenophoral trama subregular, horizontal, nongelatinous, 2.5–5.5μm, hyaline. Pileal trama composed of interwoven, branched hyphae of 1.5–2.5μm wide, thin-walled, hyaline. Pileipellis 3.0–5.5 μm in diam., nearly trichodermium towards the base, not distinct from the pileus trama, hyaline, with gelatinous subpellis (141–198 μm). Stipe trama wavy, with interwoven gelatinous hyphae. Clamp connections present.

Habitat & phenology:—Scattered, groups on decaying dead fallen angiosperm in subtropics. May-June.

Additional specimens examined:— CHINA. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Chongzuo City, Longzhou County, Nonggang National Nature Reserve, elevation 300m, on decaying dead fallen angiosperm, 17 May 2017, GAASwsw0533 (FFAAS 0428).
