PREFERED LEADERSHIP STYLE AMONG HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Due to globalization there is development in education systems in almost all over countries in the world to a way of
modernization and revolution. Currently organizing and developing leadership among students has become a most
important topic of concern not only for teachers but also among students. Leadership skills can be developed among
students through various teaching methodologies like co-operative and collaborative learning, team work, project work
etc. Such teaching skills will enable the students to develop self-esteem, confidence, leadership qualities etc. The ability
to lead should be developed in students during school training itself. Keeping in mind the importance of leadership skills
among students the present study was conducted with an aim to examine the attitude of school students towards the
various types of leadership, and then gender on the attitude towards the various types of leadership style. The study
focused on the students between the age group of 13-15 years, studying in VIII and X standard belonging to secondary
school. The study focused on the three major types of leadership styles viz. Authoritarian, Democratic and Laissez-
Faire. The results showed that there are no significant differences in the attitudes of the students towards Authoritarian,
Democratic and Laissez- Faire leadership styles.
