NANDO and NanbyoData: a disease ontology for Japanese rare and intractable diseases (Nanbyo) and a portal website for providing centralized access to the latest and diverse knowledge of Nanbyo

Description

We published this poseter at GA4GH 9th Plenary Meeting (2021).

Nanbyo (難病) is rare and intractable diseases in Japan, which is covered by the medical expense subsidy systems. The Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare has published official documents about covered diseases written in Japanese.

However
• Hard to know covered diseases and subtypes by scrutinizing official documents
• No established correspondence between Nanbyo and diseases in other databases →Difficult to get the latest knowledge and share Japanese medical data internationally

Therefore, we constructed

• Nanbyo Disease Ontology (NANDO), a machine-readable dictionary • NanbyoData, a portal website to the medical information on Nanbyo
