ANALYSIS ON FOOD SECURITY, GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP) AND POPULATION OF SELECTED COUNTRIES
Description
The main objective of this study is to analyze the global food security index (GFSI), gross domestic product (GDP) and population in selected countries. The 113 countries were selected by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) based on regional diversity, economic importance, population size and regions including the globe. Secondary data were used for analysis. The correlation between GFSI & GDP and GFSI & Population were studied. Top 10 countries and bottom 10 countries were ascertained based on GFSI. Box –plots for outliers were drawn for overall GFSI, Population and GDP. Winsorization technique was applied to minimize the influence of outliers in the data set. Correlation analysis was conducted to know the correlation between GFSI & GDP and GFSI & Population. The correlation between GDP and GFSI is weakly correlated. It is also seen that correlation between population and GFSI is not significant. Further correlation between GDP and Population is significant. GDP is moderately correlated with population. GFSI rank and median rank based on affordability, availability, quality & safety and natural resources & resilience were computed for each country to know the effect on overall food security score. This study was conducted and limited to the year 2019 only.
