Research Software: Essential yet Undersupported
Description
This talk discusses the role of research software as an element of scholarly research, focusing on the software that is developed by one set of researchers and then used by other researchers. Developers of such research software, whether faculty, research software engineers, students, postdocs, or other staff, typically struggle to find support for it, whether from community volunteers, funding agencies, or their institutions. The talk discusses this situation and some community efforts to change it, and gives suggestions for projects, institutions, and funders.
