When one thinks of Madurai, Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple comes to mind. Madurai city is a special city in the history of Tamil literature. Madurai, developed by the Tamils under the Sangam Period, is a temple city with great historical significance. The pillars of the temple, walls, gopurams, towering stone sculptures, stone carvings, and legends of Thiruvilayadal add much to the glory of this temple. Also, the construction dates of the temples can be determined by the halls and the pillars standing in those halls. Meenakshi Amman temple halls (Mandapas) have a unique historical charm. The mandapams reflect the majesty of Tamil arts and delight the eyes and mind of the beholder. Each of the temple sculptures has the characteristic of creating different kinds of music and displays the city structure of that time before our eyes. Each of the sculptures and pillars in the mandapams is an incredible art gallery. Although the temple halls look similar visually, they differ from each other technically. Each of the halls is reserved for different events and bears its own culture.
