Mathematics Teachers' Perception on the Problems of Integrating ICT in Teaching Mathematics in Secondary Schools in Zamfara State, Nigeria

The study assessed mathematics teacher's perception on the problem of integrating ICT in teaching mathematics in secondary schools in Zamfara State, Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 200 mathematics teachers in all the 60 public secondary schools in Gusau Metropolis of Zamfara State. A sample size of 40 (25 males and 15 females) mathematics teachers were randomly selected using a simple random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was used a structured questionnaire titled: Teachers Perception on the problem of Integrating ICT Questionnaire (TPPIICTQ). Two research questions was raised and one null hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. The questionnaire was subjected to face validity by experts in mathematics education. Reliability index of 0.86 for the instrument was obtained using Cronbach Alpha. The Data collected was Analysed using Mean, Standard Deviation to answer the research questions. While Mann-Whitney U- test was the statistical tool used for testing the null hypothesis at p≤ 0.05 level of significance.. The findings among others revealed that that, secondary school mathematics teachers lack ICT Skill and knowledge in teaching. Also, there was no significant difference between the perception level of male and female mathematics teachers on the problems of integrating ICT in teaching mathematics. It was therefore recommended among others that mathematics teachers should be trained to have the basic skill on how to use the ICT in teaching mathematics.
