Description
ABSTRACT
Organophosphate (OP) pesticides, as a group, are most widely used insecticides in India. OP pesticides are generally used on fruits, vegetables, grains, and pasture seed, cotton, on livestock and domestic animals as well as for building pest control. Pesticides compounds represent an important class of pollutants for food, soil and surface water resources. These pesticides remain in the fruits and vegetables and cannot be removed even after washing which is very harmful and affects the human health, so to remove or neutralize these harmful pesticides some alternative action has to be taken or be implemented. Four pesticides mainly organophosphate pesticides namely chlorpyrifos, dimethoate, Malathion and monocrotophos are the most widely used pesticides used in vegetables and fruits especially brinjals and grapes. This paper helps in reviewing the impact of pesticides, its extent of danger, its effect in day to day life, measures taken to use pesticides and the precautions one should undertake while dealing with harmful pesticides.
KEYWORDS: Pesticides, chlorpyrifos, Malathion, Dimethoate, toxicity, carcinogen.
