GGOS Bureau of Products and Standards (BPS): BPS activities on standards

This presentation gives an overview about the structure and objectives of the GGOS Bureau of Products and Standards. The focus is on the BPS activities concerning the updating of the IERS Conventions, mainly related to Chapter 1 "General definitions and numerical standards". It deals with the treatment of the permanent tide in heights as specified in the new International Height Reference System (IHRS), which presribes the IHRF coordinates in the mean-tide system to support oceanographic and hydrographic modelling. In this context, updates for Section 1.1 "Permanent Tide" are proposed. In the second part, the present status concerning numerical standards (Section 1.2 of the IERS Conventions) is addressed. Several updates for the IERS Numerical Standards (see Table 1.1) are proposed and recommendations for future developments are provided..
