TYPE LOCALITY: Colombia, Magdalena Dept., Sierra de Santa Marta, Valparaiso, 1350 m.
DISTRIBUTION: N. Colombia.
COMMENT: Possibly conspecific with albigularis; see Hershkovitz, 1966, Z. Saugetierk., 31: 137; subgenus Oryzomys. Also see Gardner and Patton, 1976, Occas. Pap. Mus. Zool. La. St. Univ., 49:38, who believed that villosus is closely related to capita.
