COMMENT: Not preoccupied by Macrotis Dejean, 1833, a nomen nudum; see Troughton, 1932, Aust. Zool., 7(3):219-236. Archer and Kirsch placed Thylacomys (a junior synonym of Macrotis) in a separate family, Thylacomyidae, rather than Peramelidae; see Archer and Kirsch, 1977, Proc. Linn. Soc. N.S. W., 102:18-25.
