Description

Spermophilus spilosoma Bennett, 1833. Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1833:40.

TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Durango, Durango (City).

DISTRIBUTION: C. Mexico to S. Texas, S.W. South Dakota, and N. W. Arizona (U.S.A.).

COMMENT: Subgenus Ictidomys; see Hall, 1981:395. Gromov et al., 1965:153, considered Ictidomys a distinct genus. Reviewed by Streubel and Fitzgerald, 1978, Mamm. Species, 101:1-4. Howell, 1938, N. Am. Fauna, 56: 122, fixed the type locality.
