SiOHCA: new initiative and preliminary data

The SiOHCA team has a goal of making everything published with the project open source. With this in mind we are publishing our Poster from the conference SZAIM that took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The poster is in Slovenian language, please see the translation bellow. 

Translation of the poster

🇬🇧:Cardiac arrest is a critical public health problem globally and locally. In Slovenia, 3798 patients experienced an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in 2018 (1), the exact number of cardiac arrest (ICD I46) is not known, the national system for tracking diseases reports on around 300 cardiac arrest in 2017 (1) . Estimated incidence of cardiac arrests in EuReCa 2 study was 85/100,000 population (2) , in analysis by authors from Ljubljana in 1998 the estimated incidence for Ljubljana area was 114,3/100000 population (3) . From these limited data we can extrapolate that a cardiac arrest affects at least 1791 (data from EuReCa 2) or 2409 residents in Slovenia (data from Tadel, et al.), if we calculate with 2.1078 million of population in Slovenia today (4) . The survival of patients with cardiac arrest at discharge in Europe is 10.8 %, while in Ljubljana this proportion was 13.8 % between 2016 and 2018 (2). We should strive for even better results and further improve clinical outcomes for patients in Slovenia. Solving each problem begins with analysing the current situation and determining both strengths and weaknesses of a given system. To improve we must first define the parameters that should be measured and consistently work on collecting quality data. Slovenia is a country with a long tradition of successful registries (e.g. The Cancer Registry and Perinatal Information System), but we are currently not gathering data regarding AMI that affects such a high number of people. With the SiOHCA project, we are establishing a way to track quality, find opportunities for improvement, and potentially increase patient survival. SiOHCA is a student project behind the world's first open-source software that will be compatible with the largest studies and the most rigorous standards in the European Union (Utstein 2015 and EuReCa 3) (3,4). We are trying to connect the data that is currently divided between multiple databases (Figure 1) to give it a new life and make it highly valuable. We also present the first preliminary results from the data we have collected so far.
