YOUNG INDIAN CRYPTO INVESTORS – AN OUTLOOK

Abstract

India is becoming a super power nation combating all the hurdles for the past 75 years after independence and it is one of the emerging as one of the strongest economies. Digital revolution has played a major role in making this happen. This study focuses on the evolution of new technology called blockchain and its worldwide impact. Also, there is an attempt to understand the reasons or motives for young population making a shift from traditional investment avenues. Growing number of new DEMAT accounts and increase in the percentage of stock market trading using mobile applications in the recent past have brought in the need to understand the overall impact of digital technologies. Many of the Millennial and Gen Z population have turned out to be crypto currency investors from the mid of last decade. Extraordinary reach of telecommunication network and information technology have made abundant information available. Young population are exposed to this revolution from their childhood and hence made them more conversant with all these digital technologies. Innovations like Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are very well adopted by millennials. Actually, there is no sufficient related research work available in this area, so, this paper is limited to have an outlook of the young investors mindset in the Indian context for investing in cryptocurrecies. Few substantiating points like the very nature of their risk taking ability for higher returns, technological knowhow, ease of access to all the information, social media influence were found to be their motives for looking for alternative investment platforms. Future research is planned to study in detail about their traits, investment goals in a tier 2 city targeting the age group of people between 25 and 40 because the young population who do crypto trading are increasing every day from such cities.
