Technological Prospecting of Astrocaryum Aculeatum (Tucumã) in a Patent Database

The tucumã fruit (Astrocaryum aculeatum) is an input derived from extractivism, and its exploitation ranges from food consumption to civil construction. Therefore, it is understood that many technologies, such as plastic wood, produced from residues of the woody core of tucumã fruit can be developed using raw materials extracted from palm trees and the fruit itself. The aim of this paper is to know the existing information about the tucumã fruit in terms of patent property filing priority, focusing on orienting the market and technological potential to be explored. A study was conducted based on the methodology called technological prospection on national and international patent bases, such as: INPI, Espacenet, USPTO and PatentScope. From the search results it was possible to identify that in the PatentScope database of 155 documents only 37 documents in fact had tucumã/Astrocaryum aculeatum as the object of protection of the invention. The research was conducted in order to better exploit the information of these databases could provide regarding the distribution of patents by Country, International Patent Classification (CIP), Ownership, and Annual Deposit Distribution. Regarding patent ownership, the French company L'Oréal stands out. The most used classification is A61K for medical, dental or hygienic purposes.
