Description

Natural regeneration plays an important role in the maintenance of tree populations, conservation and diversity of tropical dry forests. This type of forest is vulnerable with little knowledge about its vegetation, which is why this work allowed the analysis of the natural regeneration of the forest species of the botanical garden of the Technical University of Manabí. Three random sampling plots of 50 x 50 m, to define the behavior of the seedling, latizal and stem stratum by means of a forest inventory estimating the abundance of the forest species of natural regeneration, the ecological importance value index, Shannon-Wiener index and Margalef index. The forest inventory determined the identification of 18 species and 15 botanical families, the species with the highest abundance in natural regeneration were Acnistus arborescens Schltdl, Bursera cinerea, Albizia guachapele and Ochoterenaea colombiana. The sapling category presented higher individuals while latizal and stem obtained the same amount. The ecological importance value index showed greater representativeness to the species Albizia guachapele and Acnistus arborescens, while the Shannon-Wiener diversity index and the Margalef index determined the tropical dry forest of the botanical garden with specific diversity and richness. Mean indicating the investigated forest in the process of recovering species of natural regeneration.
