Portuguese Academic non-publications on Pharma: What are they saying?

The top 5 topics on doctoral and master theses and dissertations on Pharma sector are Organisation & HR, followed by Company profile/performance/valuation, Health Economics/Management, Marketing strategy and Supply chain. The most studied topic in ISCTE theses is Company profile/performance/valuation (9 theses) while in ISEG is Organisation & HR (6 theses) and in Nova SBE is Mergers and acquisitions (6 theses). In FEP-University of Porto the most studied topic on Pharma was Marketing Strategy (3 theses) and in FEUC-University of Coimbra was Health Economics and Management (3 theses). 

Regarding the evolution of the topical trends, we can observe that the topics that have started being studied since long time are R&D and Innovation Management (since 1998) and Organization and HR (since 2006). The most recent topics are Partnerships and networking (started being studied in 2013) and Digital transformation (which started being studied in 2012 and registered a significant growth in 2021 with 3 theses).

Concerning the topic of the Generic medicines we can observe an interest on this topic starting in 2010, with one thesis, and increasing in 2011 and 2012 (with two theses in each year). However, no more theses on Generics have been published since 2012. This can be explained by the fact that Portugal asked for international financial aid in April 2011, being one of the measures of the Memorandum of Understanding the increase in market share of generic medicines, which may have contributed to the interest around this topic.

The Portuguese Pharma Industry stills registering a low level of innovation and technological development. Despite that fact, the number of theses on Pharma R&D and Innovation Management, in the Portuguese Business Schools, has been decreasing since 2016.
