Late Medieval Brick Temples in the Hooghly district of West Bengal

Description

This article is about the brick built temples of the Hooghly district which were constructed during the late medieval period by local Zamindar or rich persons or renowned dacoits. Temples are classified based on their morphological features comparing with traditional architectural style. A short history about more or less all the temples complex is given. A light have been thrown on the decoration of the temple walls that came from different mythological tales, natures, and society. An attempt have also been made to know how these temple complexes became a part of the society and how economic activities are emerged centralizing the temple premises.
